The Iowa State Capitol dome easily caught the attention of groups of non-Iowans rolling out of Des Moines this morning.
More than a few stopped for a photo there, as well as by several nearby monuments.
Kirsten and Bill Hampton stopped for a photo with the dome behind them.
“My husband is from California, and being an Iowa kid I tell him about Iowa,” Kirsten Hamilton, 39, said. “But this is his first Iowa immersion experience.”
This is the Illinois couple’s first RAGBRAI, and Capitol photo op was a must-do.
“It’s such a symbol of Iowa and Des Moines,” Kirsten Hampton said.
Margaret and Tom Mills also stopped. It is the Virginia pair’s first time through Iowa and they said they were enjoying the ride, with one big surprise.
“I thought Iowa was supposed to be flat,” Tom Mills said.
