Four years ago Joe Larsen met Leigh Yarger on the annual Brr Ride from Perry to Rippey.

This morning the two woke up in Perry as honeymooners and pedaled their way to Des Moines on a bicycle built for two. They pulled a tent and the rest of their gear behind them in a trailer.

“He told me we were going to Jamaica. I guess he meant Jamaica, Iowa,” Yarger said with a laugh, wearing a bike-friendly wedding gown Tuesday afternoon.

Last year the two participated in their first RAGBRAI.

But so far, the two said they much prefer this year’s event as a married couple. Yarger admitted the temperature, which on Tuesday was nearly 30 degrees cooler than this time last year, may also have something to do with that.

Yarger, in a spandex bike shirt that looked like a tuxedo, said the Valley Junction party made for one of his favorite stops of the ride thus far.

The couple, who now lives in Washburn, got married in October and intentionally waited till RAGBRAI to honeymoon.
