In unexpected proceedings, the Iowa House passed House File 380 yesterday unanimously 94-0. The bill was taken up in floor debate and passed.
- It was a bi-partisan effort with Republicans and Democrats saying this was a good bill and good for public safety.
- This bill idea was brought to Rep. Brian Best from the Iowa Bicycle Coalition who recognized a need.
- The bill follows other efforts of the Iowa Bicycle Coalition on distracted driving including primary offence legislation, felony in the event of fatal crashes and texting, and hands-free requirement while driving.
The bill now proceeds to the Iowa Senate where it passed the Senate Transportation Committee unanimously yesterday.
