Here’s a quick need-to-know primer about today’s 41-mile ride from Okoboji to Emmetsburg:

WEATHER: Mostly sunny skies will heat up Monday, says meteorologist Ed Wilson of WHO-HD in Des Moines. The early morning temperatures will be in the lower 70s. The warmer air will also help to push highs to the upper 80s by the afternoon. It will be sticky with higher humidity, making it feel like it’s in the middle to upper 90s, or even 100. The south wind will continue to be breezy in the afternoon. Gusts could reach 25 mph.

THE SIGHTS

Here’s a brief selection of the things you’ll encounter today:

CENTURY-OLD SLAMMER: In Terril, riders will find the town’s first jail, built in 1900, which was used to help address issues stemming from alcohol.

IRISH TIME: Bring some green garb because it will be St. Patrick’s Day in July in Emmetsburg. The town is known for its Irish tradition and for a statue of Robert Emmet, an Irish hero hanged in 1803 who is remembered for his strong moral values and courage.
