Day 2: What to know before heading out

Here’s a quick primer about today’s 83-mile ride from Harlan to Perry:

WEATHER: It’s a warm and muggy one, says WHO-TV of Des Moines. Expect mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower 90s. The heat index will be near 100.

TONIGHT’S ENTERTAINMENT: Hairball is on the main stage in Perry,

THE SIGHTS: Here’s a brief selection of the things you’ll encounter today:

Danish heritage: To celebrate Kimballton and Elk Horn’s Danish heritage, riders can visit Kimballton’s life-size replica of the Little Mermaid statue and Elk Horn’s 60-foot Danish windmill.

Competitive spirit: Let your competitive spirit loose when you ride through Guthrie Center. Riders can participate in bag toss games, hot wheels races and slide races.

Famous tenderloin: While in Hamlin, eat Iowa’s original best tenderloin. Darrell’s Place in Hamlin won the Iowa Pork Producers’ first “Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin” contest in 2003.
