Submitted by jayne on Mon, 07/12/2010 - 15:49
Training Crossing Guards Across the State
The Adult Crossing Guard Training has been postponed for Dubuque on August 18. Please contact Jayne McGuire at jayne@iowabicyclecoalition.org if you would like to be notified of the next Dubuques training date.
Iowa now has a uniform training program for school crossing guards. This free training program is in it's second year and will increase safety for both students and crossing guards and bring increased awareness to drivers of school crossings. Starting August, the Iowa Adult School Crossing Guard training program will begin it's journey across the state.
The Iowa Adult School Crossing Guard Training course will be held in each of the six Department of Transportation (DOT) Districts in Iowa. The course is specifically geared for school or community crossing guard trainers and supervisors such as school officials, law enforcement officers, or any persons who will be training the local crossing guards. It's a full-day course that covers proper crossing guard techniques, laws, policies, procedures, hazards and safety issues. The course is provided by the Iowa Bicycle Coalition as part of the Safe Routes to School program.
Registration for the course has begun. If you are interested in participating, decide which training course will be most convenient for you to attend and register for the course at the Iowa Safe Routes to School website, www.iowasaferoutes.org. The course will be held at each DOT district and will run from 9 AM to 4 PM. Below is a list of course locations and dates.
