MEREDITH CORPORATION RECEIVES SILVER DESIGNATION
Submitted by iowabicycle on Tue, 09/29/2009 - 09:36
The League of American Bicyclists announced today that Meredith Corporation (NYSE: MDP) has been awarded the Silver designation as part of the League’s Bicycle Friendly Business program. The program recognizes businesses that provide accommodations for bicyclists. Meredith was one of just 45 companies recognized nationwide by the League as part of the Bicycle Friendly Business program.
“Bicycling is an important part of our effort to promote regular physical activity through our employee wellness initiative,” said Tim O’Neil, Meredith Wellness Manager. “It also makes sense from an environmental standpoint, so this is a win for everyone.”
Meredith supports bicycling to work in a variety of ways that include:
- A bicycle commuter subsidy that provides regular commuters with up to $240 per calendar year in reimbursed fees for full-time and part-time benefits eligible employees;
- Lockers/showers for employees that commute;
- A Meredith bicycle trail;
- Involvement in outreach activities such as the annual Bike to Work Week in May.
“Bicycling is a practical form of physical activity that has the added benefits of reducing congestion and the need for parking, reducing the carbon footprint, increasing productivity, and raising morale,” said League President Andy Clarke. “We commend Meredith for its very strong program in support of this activity.”
