Petition to Oppose the Bike Ban
Submitted by iowabicycle on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 13:37
I oppose an effort to ban bicycles on Iowa public roads.
Our roadways are public right-of-ways open to travel by many different means of conveyance.
Motorists and bicyclists, as well as all roadway users, have a responsibility to keep a proper lookout and operate safely.
A basic principle of traffic law is faster moving traffic should yield to slower moving traffic.
While numbers of cyclists have increased, the number of crashes and injuries have maintained the same amount of occurrences.
More can be done to make cyclists safer including changes to infrastructure, enforcement, policy, and awareness.
