Hand Signals for Bike Safety

Plan ahead and signal long before you are ready to perform the action. Motorists also need some advance warning so they can react to what you are going to do.
Look behind to notice other vehicles and see what they are doing.
Use your left hand when signaling to other people. You should always be riding on the right side of the road, so people will be able to see your left arm clearly.
THE LEFT TURN Stick your left arm to the side straight out from your body, parallel to the ground when you are ready to make a left turn.
THE RIGHT TURN Bend your left arm at a 90 degree angle with your fingers pointing toward the sky when you are ready to make a right turn.
STOPPING Bend your arm at a 90 degree angle with your fingers pointing toward the ground when you are getting ready to stop.
