Marshalltown Completes Bike Parking Installation

The Iowa Valley Bicycle Club has notified the Iowa Bicycle Coalition that they have initiated 10 additional short term bike parking in the central business district of Marshalltown.  Several of the "Inverted U" style bike racks were located in the downtown area.

The Iowa Bicycle Coalition worked with community leaders in the city of Marshalltown alongside members of the Iowa Valley Bicycle Club to produce a Marshalltown Bike Parking Study.  The study identified areas that the community needs to install additional short-term bicycle parking in order to enhance business and economic development.

Two special racks were created in memory of Dan Ring and Wayne Cordes, two founders of the Iowa Valley Bike Club.  The racks also have a logo of Marshalltown crafted into the center of the bike rack.

Bicycle parking is one way many communities can encourage residents to visit businesses by bicycle.  Absence of bike parking is a major factor in choosing where to use bicycles to shop.  Effective bicycle parking racks allow bicycles to support the frame upright and allow the wheels of the bicycle to be locked.  The Marshalltown Bike Racks meet those standards.
