During the
vulnerable user law debate, it has come to our attention that there is a law
to increase penalties for injury or death in certain moving violations.
This is addressed in the Iowa Code 321.482A VIOLATIONS RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH -- ADDITIONAL PENALTIES.
This section has a list of moving violation sections of the Iowa Code that seem particularly problematic for the vulnerable users of the transportation system. If a motorist is convicted of any of these violations and cause serious injury they will have an additional fine of $500 or suspension of driver's license for not more than 90 days, or both. If the motorist is convicted of any of the violations and cause death, they will have an additional fine of $1000 or suspension of the driver's license for not more than 180 days, or both.
