Cascade Complete Streets

Thanks to efforts by the Cascade Cycling Club, Club Safety Director Randy Lyons, and the City of Cascade the first Iowa complete streets policy has been passed.  Cascade (pop. 1,950) is a leader in complete street design by passing their own policy statement regarding complete streets (read the full text).  The community hopes the policy will make their streets safer and easier to use for bicyclists and walkers as well as improve the quality of life for the community.

There is more information at www.completestreets.org.

21% of Americans over 65 do not drive
More than 50% of non-drivers stay at home on a given day because they lack transportation
65% of trips under one mile are now taken by automobile - 2001 National Household Transportation Survey
52% want to bike more than they do now. America Bikes Poll
55% would rather drive less and walk more. - STPP Poll
Only 15% of kids walk or bike to school. - Iowa Safe Routes To School

All large fires start as a little spark.  Cascade has very well sparked the movement of the state of Iowa to become bicycle and pedestrian friendly.
